What happens after you send the form
Your enquiry comes straight to us. We read it, then get back to you by phone, email or WhatsApp, whichever you asked for, to arrange a time for the survey. The survey and the quote are free, and there is no obligation to go ahead.
The survey
We come to the property and look at the job in full. That means:
- measuring the existing rooflight or the proposed opening
- checking the roof covering and how it is laid
- looking at the rafters or joists where the unit will go
- working out safe access to the roof
- talking through the room: the light you want, ventilation, blinds and whether electric opening suits you
If the work is notifiable under the Building Regulations, we tell you at this stage and explain that we handle the Building Control notification. If something about the house points to a planning question, such as a listed building or a conservation area, we say so too.
Your life plan
With the quote comes a short life plan for the unit we recommend. It names the unit and its size, lists the parts that will wear over the years, and says how each one is replaced and whether that means disturbing the roof. It is there so you can choose with the long run in view. You can see an example layout on the life plan page.
Your fixed written quote
After the survey we send a written quote with a fixed price for the work it describes. It sets out the unit, the roof work, any structural work and access, the making good inside, any Building Control fee as its own line, and the payment stages. Take your time over it. If anything is unclear, ask, and we will explain it. You can read more about what shapes the figure on our costs page.
What to have ready
You do not need anything to send the form. If you have them to hand, these help us prepare for the survey:
- a few photos of the room and of the roof from outside, or of the old rooflight if it is a replacement
- the roof type, if you know it: slate, tile, felt, single ply, GRP or metal
- a rough size of the existing unit or the space you have in mind
- any make or model label on an existing roof window, often found on the frame when the sash is open
- whether the house is listed or in a conservation area, if you know
Prefer WhatsApp
You can message us on WhatsApp at +44 7880 284133. It is an easy way to send photos of the roof and the room straight from your phone. Tell us your name, your town and what you have in mind, and we will take it from there.
